Listed passengers

In the Shipping columns of the SMH there were reports of things maritime, Clearances, Outwards, weather forcasts, movement of coastal vessels, cargo reports, etc.

Of special interest were the listings of passengers. These lists are known not to include ALL Cabin passengers, and rarely, if ever, were steerage passengers listed.

There were times prospective passengers withdrew and did not sail, there were those who came aboard at the last minute, etc. I have NEVER found crew mentioned, they like the Steerage passengers were invisible, on occasions information elsewhere in the SMH gave information on desertions, altercations, wrecks, although not on a regular basis. Look for the Water Police and Legal reports elsewhere in the paper!

If you find a person listed here check the Mariners and Ships in Australian Waters or you are seeking a person on a particular vessel who does not appear here.

These links are for both Inward passengers and Outward passengers.
